A Life Less Ordinary

The easiest thing in the world is to be the person everyone expects us to be.

It starts early in life. Parents, relatives, teachers, friends -- they all have ideas for the kind of person we should be. It's done with the best of intentions, but very quickly, we start to internalize all those opinions. We begin to compromise our beliefs and dreams to conform with everyone else.

The problem is this is the path to screaming mediocrity. Don't rock the boat. Don't stick out. Blend in. Bovine America loves it when you are part of the herd. Follow the rules. Don't make waves.

But true genius, true artistry lies along a different path. Like Robert Frost, if we choose the path less traveled, if we have the courage to be the person we want to be -- only then do we have a chance to shine. This is the only recipe if you want to live a life less ordinary.

So kick off the shackles of conformity! Listen to everyone (because even an idiot is entitled to one good idea!) but make your own choices. Be the person you want to be and you will be happy. It's definitely the harder path, but ultimately much more worthwhile.
