Explanation: A customizable language for the exchange of information between systems.

Cost: Free programming standard. Labor costs are normal for technical employees.

Recommendation: XML has become a dominant standard for data exchange. This is a great replacement for traditional Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems.

Analogy: Create your own data structure, then transmit your information to someone else who can then analyze your information from within the structure you designed.
