New Tech: Spin Battery

Back in March 2009, researchers at the University of Miami and the University of Tokyo and Tohoku proved the existence of a "spin battery." This is a battery that is "charged" by applying a large magnetic field to nano-magnets.

Normal batteries are chemical, meaning there's a chemical reaction needed to generate electricity. All batteries, from AAA's to Lithium Ion work alike. But, this new battery converts magnetic energy directly into electricity!

How? Who cares. The fact is they have proven that it works!

The applications for this are endless. This will be one of those discoveries that will change life as we know it. Batteries will shrink dramatically but will last longer than ever before.

Sure, the first one will cost millions of dollars but then the technology adoption curve will kick in and prices will drop. Don't be surprised if your car is running on a spin battery in 10 years.

Way to go Stewart Barnes and the rest of the team of brainiacs that made this amazing discovery.
