It takes me months to puzzle through some of the pronouncements by Seth Godin. I've spent the last 2 months puzzling over something from Ben Young. Hell, there are probably things I will never understand. When it comes to marketing, I just don't get it.
Marketing is the fine art of effectively communicating your message to lots of people. If you do it right, you can convince them to take whatever next step you ask. Maybe you want an email address, a phone call or a sale. It is the fine art of convincing people to do something you want them to do.
I understand the definition. The problem is with the execution.
But that's alright. I don't need to know how to do everything. (I repeat that to myself often; I love knowing everything! Just ask my wife...)
At the end of the day, I am a business technology consultant. As a micro business owner, it is easy to believe that you must do it all. Forget it. You are just wasting your time. Focus on what you do best and outsource the rest.
You can't do it all, so don't try. Besides, you'll only make a mess of things. Trust me, I know.
