Your Free Digital Spy: Google Alerts

Haven't you ever wanted a spy that can dig up valuable information about your industry, your customers and even the competition?

With Google Alerts you can get email or RSS updates whenever there are new results for your search terms. It's like your own personal digital spy!

Simply visit the Google Alerts site and input your search terms and your notification options. This free service will then search through News, Web, Blogs, Video and Groups to find results. It's that simple.

For example, I create a separate Google Alert for all of our clients. I use the company name in quotation marks (e.g. "Alpine Fresh") as the search term. I also set up Google Alerts for industry-specific information related to my client's business (e.g. "asparagus"). This let's me keep up-to-date on their business.

In some cases, I have pointed out important industry news that the client had missed. This extends my value to their business because I am now a source of actionable information. Besides, it never hurts to look smart in front of a customer.

Go ahead and set up a few Google Alerts for your business today. Spend some time experimenting with the search terms until you achieve the best results. Knowledge is power and these free Alerts are invaluable for getting you the knowledge you need.
